ZÉ MIGUEL WISNIK

Zé Miguel Wisnik is a musician, composer and essayist. He received a degree in Literature (1970), a masters (1974) and a doctorate in Literary Theory and Comparative Literature (1980) at the Universidade de São Paulo, and is currently professor of Brazilian Literature at the same institution. He has published "O Coro dos Contrários - a Música em Torno da Semana de 22" (Duas Cidades, 1977), "O Nacional e o Popular na Cultura Brasileira" (Brasiliense, 1982), "O Som e o Sentido" (Companhia das Letras, 1989), "Sem Receita - Ensaios e Canções" (Publifolha, 2004) and "Veneno Remédio: O Futebol e o Brasil" (Companhia das Letras, 2008).

He received the Jabuti Award from the Câmara Brasileira do Livro, in 1978 (as Best New Author) and, in 2009, as an essayist. He received a grant from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation (1983-84), the Noel Rosa Trophy as composer-revelation in 1989, the award at the Gramado Festival in the category of original music for a short film (1989), the award from the Associação Paulista de Críticos de Arte for his productions for theater and dance (1991, 1993 and 1995), and the award for the best music at the Ceará Film Festival, for the documentary feature film “Janela da alma”, in 2001. In 2009, he received the Order of Cultural Merit.
